GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

 

The Process Automation Technician setup and operates a variety of machine tools, adjust equipment accordingly based upon the review of CMM reports and other gauges used to inspect and control the process and verifies conformance of machined work pieces to quality specifications following the proper procedures for each process which could include CMM reports, hard and functional gauges, etc.

 

The Process Automation Technician must be able to read standard gauges, written instructions and diagrams to verify conformance of machined and/or assembled parts to specifications using instruments provided. Also follow proper procedures such as increased inspections, specific job instructions, visual aids, quality alerts and sorts. The Process Automation Technician is the leader of the process and is responsible for the quality of the product and efficiency of the process.

 

The Process Automation Technician works with the Manufacturing Engineer and/or the Tooling Coordinator to obtain approval for any changes made to the process in all of the above areas. The Process Automation Technician is required to record all tool changes in the Tool Change Log; all tool test information in the Tool Test Notification Form, any changes to process; i.e. speed and feed changes, program changes, and complete the daily matrix form.

 

The Process Automation Technician will complete all required reports to help monitor continuous improvement and maintain the specific job requirements for quality control and statistical process control, review Infinity SPC data system and act to correct out of print conditions

 

Other general responsibilities include; proper disposition of non conforming material, first piece inspection after tool and/or process changes, and required hourly checks, turn in Team Process Reports sheets, maintain downtime records (computer or written), maintain and review ARTIS system and document any changes, sort for defective material completing the proper documentation, report to supervisor and Roaming Quality Auditor of any problem with the process.

 

If the job is a three shift scheduled process, the half hour overlap at the end of the shift must then be used to maintain equipment clean and area organized, dispose of materials, fill out reports and update the Production Information Board.

 

The Process Automation Technician must be able to changeover the process when required; fixtures, tooling and machine setup.

 

Process Automation Technicians will be required to work extra hours depending on production schedules and/or cover for other Technician vacation at the discretion of the supervisor, timely notice will be given. If the line is down, the Process Automation Technician must not leave the work area unless approved by the Supervisor, a Process Automation Technician may be required to move to other work assignments at the discretion of the Supervisor. The Process Automation Technician can only leave his/her work area at approved break and lunch times.

 

A Process Automation Technician is responsible to provide and maintain his/her own tool box with hand tools and other equipment required to perform his/her job. The tools must be of good quality and adequate to the machinery and equipment utilized in the process.
