We are seeking a Safety Engineer SME.



  • Monitor, identify, document and provide recommendations for human factors engineering plans,

  • Monitor execution of engineering plans and analyze human factors engineering status optimizing ground system interfaces, maintaining the system at required levels, and eliminating design-induced errors and inefficiencies.

  • Evaluate and recommend options for addressing potentially hazardous situations found in work spaces, manufacturing areas, test facilities, integration areas, storage facilities, transportation, pre-launch areas, launch facilities, and post-launch processing

  • Support system safety tasks (e.g., trade studies, risk assessments, design reviews, risk management, proposal evaluations, reports, and waivers and deviations)

  • Hands-on leader for one or multiple tasks at one or more physical locations

  • Develop Safety lessons learned from acquisition and assure integration with future products  to increase efficiencies, timelines and effectiveness

  • Attends, and provides insightful assessment supporting client leadership in acquisition related meetings

  • Implement a project level quality program and metrics, assuring client satisfaction

  • Acts as a mentor for junior staff comprised of engineers, administrative staff, and scientists


Primary Location:  Los Angeles Area, El Segundo



Minimum Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in defense or national security-oriented services company

  • Detailed oriented with good analytical skills a must

  • Experience with Air Force, Military and SMC Standards and instructions including:  AFI 91-202, AFI 91-217, MIL882, and SMCI 63-1205,

  • Demonstrated experience developing successful, complex Safety strategies for space acquisitions with a record of high safety performance

  • Superior communication (presentation, speaking, writing) skillsets

  • Safety/Human Factors experience in one or more Air Force Space remote sensing programs. 

  • Detailed knowledge of AF Space and Missiles Center (SMC) processes, organizations, and missions

  • Proficient in PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver the highest quality service

  • Extremely organized. Strong multi-tasking and time-management skills.

  • Can handle sensitive information with the highest degree of integrity and confidentiality.

  • Willingness to travel to meet client demands—anticipated locations include Colorado, California, and the DC Metro Area


Educational Requirements:        BS degree in an Engineering discipline.


Clearance Requirements:            Secret clearance minimum required, Top Secret or TS/SCI desired
